Is there a way to simply "check" the balance of an Amazon gift card without redeeming it?

I always seem to have trouble with gift cards. When I get them myself, they sometimes don't work, and I've heard similar complaints from others. I recently bought an Amazon gift card as a gift to a friend, and I don't want to look like a jerk giving a used gift card away.

If you got it electronically, you can call customer service and have them check the number for a balalnce without entering it into an account. If you bought a physical plastic card at a store, I'm not sure. Was there an activitation code number on the receipt - there should be.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
