Is there any web-site out there with consumer reviews and recommendations of local auto-mechanic shops?

I'm thinking like a Zagat site, except for auto-repair shops. I need to have some work done on my car soon, but I don't know any good shops around my area (North Jersey). I've been scammed before by auto mechanics, so I'm hesitant to bring my car to just any local shop.

It is not realily available...yet... This is every car owner’s dilemma indeed. Unfortunately, there is not a website that is comprehensive enough yet. Came across a website name ratemyrepairshop.com, but the information there is really limited.

Hopefully someone else will find a better website for you, so I would just offer my opinions on finding a good shop. Getting referrals from friends and families is a good start, but don't take for granted. I will tend to give some trust to AAA, which has its approved repair shop network.

AAA has a list of qualifications a shop has to meet and AAA can act as mediator should a dispute rises. Visit AAA.com for more information and a list of approved shops in your area. I also try my best to understand how cars work, the more knowlegdge I have, the less likely I will be tricked.

And if the shop has a feeling that I know something, they will less likely to try any tricks. I often delay the suggestions offered by the shop, go home and do some research first before I can be sure that the guy is telling the truth. For any major issue, I also visit 1 or 2 more shops to confirm pricing.

Chain shops like Midas are less likely to scam you, but that is not always true. Sources: my opinions boxing's Recommendations How Cars Work Amazon List Price: $17.95 Used from: $11.37 Average Customer Rating: 4.5 out of 5 (based on 23 reviews) .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
