You're right, the Bible does not give an age for the earth. The 6,000 year old thing was an estimate of Dr. John Lightfoot, a 17th century Anglican clergyman. He estimated that creation occurred during 4004 BCE.
Bishop James Ussher in the 17th century made the same estimate a decade later, and got almost all the credit.
Actually we are looking at a time line which extends back to about 4000 BC when Adam was created. If you add the 2000 years since Jesus's birth we are looking at approximately 6000 years of human experience. I believe you are referring to the human experience on earth not the actual age of the earth.
The earth is much older.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
