Is Universal Health Care to socialist for American?

Stella, Emergency Departments are regulated by State governments here in the U.S. In my state; Emergency Departments may not turn away people, but it may be different in other states. Not everyone is eligible for Medicaid program; which is a federally funded program for low income people and is operated by State governments. However; there are federally funded health centers that are open to all; these centers use an income-based sliding scale fee for those who do not have public or private insurance.

The health center boards work with other providers to find care for people who need specialized treatment. Health Resources and Services Administration Primary Care: The Health Center Program http://www.bphc.hrsa.gov/about/index.htm... It is very tough to navigate the health care system here in the U.S. I don't think we have "a system'; we have several ways to obtain health care and it isn't always easy to figure out. My personal opinion is that we end up paying more for our care because access to care is so fragmented.

Some states in the US do have programs where you can see a doctor on a sliding scale. New Mexico has a good program and from what I understand, Hawaii has one too. In Nevada, they don't have a very good system for seeing a sliding scale doctor.

You have to wait about 45 min. On the phone to get an appointment with them for weeks or even a month ahead. They cost a min.

Of $45. To see the doctors in these clinics, you can go to a medical clinic in a min-mall for between $55. To $90.

Some dollars a visit without waiting, you walk in. That is still expensive for the service you get once inside these clinics. The usually just push pills on you.

Most of these doctors have just gotten out of school so it is again the luck of the draw. If you are in bad shape you can walk into the ER and wait until they see you, could be fast or half the night or day. I heard most people without insurance go into the ER at night hoping they won't have to wait half the day to be seen.

They usually have teaching hospitals in almost every city, if you can get into them even with a serious problem they will let the students work on you for free. Of course you must have a case that they are interested in learning, the student doctors have different areas of medicine to learn and if they have already by passed your sort of problems area then you may have to wait until the next round of students start learning that disease. It is a huge mess in the US, some people get 5 star treatment and others get aspirin and a kick in the pants.

When you think about how big and powerful the US is then you realize how sick the medical system is there. We treat illegals better then we treat our own people. If you are between the ages of 18 to 65 in the US and without health coverage then it is a very un nerving situation.

There are some programs out there but they usually only go half way with good treatment because if you are seriously sick and the hospitals can't bill an insurance co. Then they would rather let you die then to fix a problem that is too costly. They will bill the government with each state having a different sort of program for the poor but as the gov.

Programs don't pay allot to them, they would sometimes rather not treat you then to lose out on some money. It is really about luck when you get ill without insurance in the US, where you live, what is really wrong with you and if you can wait it out long enough for all the red tape and paperwork to get done before you crash. It is a capitalist country and medical services are for sale.

If you can't afford to pay then you are on your own pretty much. Takes allot of footwork, phone calls and luck to find a program that will treat you for free or super low cost. It is a crime really.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
