The Jakarta riots in 1998 never saw thousands of Chinese killed , most people that died were killed when the Matahari Store and shopping mall burned down. The riots were never against Chinese but against the government and the army who shot 4 students the day before that were having a sit in demonstration against the government and president Suharto appointed a 2nd time after a appointment without direct election. There are more homicideds in the US every year than die by terrorism.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
