It's 1year since the earthquake in Haiti and the place is still a mess with contributions of millions of dollars. why?

Because the Haitians are as much consuming themselves as the food sent. One, witch doctors are found and killed "because they put a hex on someone" or some such malarkey. In other words, they're still killing each other over pagan beliefs and unproven accusations.

Two, a geologist recently proposed seriously that the earthquake was a function of tectonic stresses deep in the earth triggered by the addition of prodigious weight of earth from deforesting. Yes, the Haitians had so denuded their own forests (60% down to 2%) that the runoff had washed so much earth into the bay--which is directly over the fault line--that the added weight sprang that earthquake sooner than it normally would have gone. They're doing it to themselves and won't quit.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
