On one hand they do let people ask questions they wouldn't normally ask. And it does let lots of casual people throw questions into the pot. If they get good answers they may come back for more.
On the other hand there are a bunch of useless dumb questions. That's not to say that only anonymous questioners ask them but they do seem more of them from anonymous questioners.. and they all stand out more as they have come from the 'same user' instead of being spread out from many individual users. The other 'problem' with getting good answers from anonymous questions is the fact that they don't have the same level of reputation as known questioners.
You've been here a while, asked some good questions, answered some others in a helpful matter... and that means that people like you. You have a good 'reputation' here and so a question asked by you is more likely to get attention than one asked by 'anonymous'. Thats not to say I won't answer a question from anonymous users.
There are some really good ones in there.. and I do answer the ones that interest me. However a question from someone I know ranks There was a bug that they seem to have squashed.. that meant anonymous questions didn't have any of the category information coming through with them.So we got 'silly' questions like 'where was he born' with no idea of who he was. So things are getting better.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
