Years later, die on a cross so that people could be forgiven and go to Heaven. The result of sin is death and Hell. Jesus took that punishment for us.
Not sure what you mean by 'replacing the serpent on the cross'. There was never a serpent on the cross - it was Jesus Christ dying on the cross and rising from the dead three days later -- He went to hell and back For us / in our place - so that we wouldn't Have to go there. By accepting s gift of salvation From hell we have the opportunity to be in heaven for eternity.
There Was a situation in the Old Testament of the Children of Israel - I'm thinking that was the group of people who were told to look at a serpent in order to be cured of something. A covenant is a promise -- between two parties? It's more a covenant with Us - that accepting salvation will enable us to Not go to hell.
We'll still experience death - unless the rapture of the church occurs in our life time.
On the cross Jesus takes on our sin and rebellion. He takes on the curse and the judgment we deserve. Yes, another way God helps us to understand what is happening on the cross is the connection with the people in the desert being saved from the just judgment of the rebellion by looking to the bronze serpent elevated on a wooden pole.
Looking at the bronze serpent and trusting God's promise connected with it -- that they would be saved from the death of the bite from the serpent -- saved them from death. Jesus, mself made the connection in John 3 "Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life. " When we look to Jesus on the cross, we see the result of our rebellion -- justice, judgment, death.
YET, Jesus who is to judge the world and bring just judgment, takes the punishment Jesus -- in effect -- became our hero and took our judgment in our place. There is nothing in either event about a covenant regarding death and hell. Instead there is a DEFEAT of death and hell.
The covenant God made is with US. He promised that as a human child of a human mother God would defeat the Serpent/Satan. Jesus took the Serpent's strike and died in our place. To repeat, there was no promise made to death or hell.
The promise was made to us that He would defeat both, and He did it by taking our place under the condemnation of justice.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
