Try height(): Get the current computed height for the first element in the set of matched elements. E.g. Like so: height = $('#inhalt').height(); Works for me in IE6, 7 and 8.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
