Besides the missile explosion, major portions of the plane (such as the engines) may have torn off due to the aircraft's un-aerodynamic attitude and the weakening of the structure due to the initial blast.
The wreckage was scattered. Flight 93 didn't blow up in the air. The passengers attacked the hijackers and the plane was intact when it impacted the ground at about a 40 degree angle going about 600 mph.
Because of this, the impact area was relatively small.
