Hello Karen Bringing the death penalty back or not is a very emotive subject. Being an ex soldier myself I, like most people are up in arms about what took place. But whether the death penalty should be brought back or not is a difficult question to answer.
100s of people have be executed in the past but were later found to be totally innocent and I for one would not want to see one innocent person executed, even if it meant a 100 guilty ones escape the death penalty. With modern science it is far more likely that the gigantic advances in forensics will virtually always have irrefutable proof of someones guilt there is still the chance that this science could 'get it wrong'. I am afraid that this nation is becoming a champion of the guilty rather than making sure the guilty are properly punished so I can never see capital punishment coming back.
One example of the totally lenient way the powers that be deal with killers is the recent case of a few months old baby who was violently shaken to death. The person who did this received a sentence of just seven years of which he will probably be out of prison within four. In that case I would be more than happy to see this offender 'swing'.
There is another way of looking at the death penalty. If someone is executed for the crime they committed that is a relatively quick release but if they have to spend every remaining second of their life locked up then perhaps that is even more punishment. Unfortunately when a judge hands down a life sentence it virtually never means life but just a few years behind bars and then the guilty are out free again but the victims or their loved ones are on a life sentence remembering what happened to them or the victim.
Poseidon.
Umm. The UK will be damned if they put them both to death, they'll ONLY become martyrs. 72 virgins await them in paradise & their families will be rewarded for their sacrifice.
If they don't use the death penalty, both will no doubt spend their years in prison brain-washing & recruiting deluded extremist muslims. Either way the general public will end up paying the price for successive governments sitting on their hands for decades. Wasn't so long ago the moderate muslims asked for help, they couldn't control the radical muslims within their midst!
They asked for help & the police, security forces & government declined.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
