A+++ for the charity donation feature of the Mahalo Store I could not be happier about that. Everyone in this thread seems to have covered all of the most asked for gift cards and the most useful gift cards but I have noticed that the Visa and American Express prepaid gift cards have (@wy mentioned Visa) been left out of the Mahalo Store inventory so far. I feel if these prepaid credit cards were available to purchase in the Mahalo Store the demand would be quite high as they are general purpose everywhere.
Mahaloians that do not live in countries where PayPal is an option could use these to withdraw the real cash they have been wanting to but so far have not been able to withdraw. And ... *cough*.. selfishly speaking a Dunkin Donuts Gift Card would be great for those of us with a DD habit to feed daily. I have one and they are rechargeable but Dunkins acquires new coffee addicts every day.
How about coupon books? ~~ I love coupons. Or the The Entertainment Card?
~~ these are useful to a lot of people. http://www.entertainment.com/discount/home.shtml I think that about covers all I had to add. You guys are great for providing an alternate form of Mahalo Dollar value withdrawal.
:).
Right off the bat, just looking at the Screengrab you've included I am excited to see the addition of Charities. flickr.com/photos/33749589@N07/4478295760/ As we already know, many use Mahalo not for personal gain but for the opportunity to help others, and what the charity option in the Mahalo store does is allow Mahaloians to doubled down on their help. We've seen the community step up during major events like the Haiti Earthquake and during Thanksgiving - Now these pay-to options will mean Mahalo Dollars will go even further on a monthly basis on those who need them the most.
One thing I would like to see with this feature, is a an accumulative ticker, always showing the amount of money Mahalo has raised to each organization. For those who did now know, Mahalo already has Kiva lending team which has donated over $2K http://www.kiva.org/team/mahalo_answers I am also curious if the charity option will breed an entirely new to type of motivated user, I know many people contribute to Wikipedia because it makes them "feel good" - I wonder if those contributors might consider trying out Mahalo knowing the same type of effort they put could earn charities boatloads of cash.
I love the idea of donating to charities, I'm sure members will be donating quite a bit during holiday seasons and whenever the next natural disaster strikes. Make one of the charities for preventing animal abuse and i'll definitely contribute! For other cards I suggest the popular itunes cards, as well as cards for World of Warcraft, XBox Live, PSN Cards and Wii cards.
Other cards should be for Amazon, Best Buy, Target, Wally World, Starbucks, and so on. Throw in some other gift cards for stuff like sports (Sports Authority, Dick's, etc), perhaps gift cards for movie theaters (lots of big movies coming out this year and movie prices keep going up! ).
If there's any for ebay, add that to the list. Perhaps try to do gift cards for some niche stores too. Oh!
How about a bobblehead for the Mahalo Girl? Or dashboard icon of her? Or mouse pads or coffee mugs?
*hint, coffee* Can we have an option to change the color scheme at some point? Hope my ideas are valid. And very happy that we can still cash out for USDollars too.
I would like to see some Mahalo T-Shirts in the store. There was a design contest a while back with a lot of great ideas for Mahalo t-shirts. Maybe some of those can be used for the store.
Some other Mahalo apparel would be nice too like hoodies or belts!
I still prefer cash as an option :-) I had asked these questions below (got some great answers) before: 1. We need to have gift cards that are usable all over the world. mahalo.com/answers/gift-cards/what-are-t... gift cards usable all over the world : Visa or MasterCard gift card/ prepaid card/ debit card I think this is possible.
Elance (a freelancing website) has prepaid mastercard. help.elance.com/forums/30972/entries/34516 Elance prepaid mastercard, usable everywhere that MasterCard is accepted.2. mahalo.com/answers/gift-cards/what-are-t... ways to monetize or cashout gift cards : eBay, Giftcards, SwapAGift website If overseas usable giftcards are not possible, at least have those that can be monetized at better rate (check from the websites inside).
3. http://www.mahalo.com/answers/gift-cards/what-gift-cards-would-you-want-if-virtual-currency-of-a-website-you-frequented-can-be-exchanged-for-a-gift-card gift cards of choice: Visa or Walmart I think these gift cards will give Mahaloians better choices. I guess Walmart giftcard will be convenient for US Mahaloians.
4. Mahalo to use Group joining to get some discounts from these “stores And transfer some discounts, money earned to Mahaloians. It will be even better if Mahalo can have some Groupon like features where we can get discount for group buying. Mahalo can also be affiliates of these stores and get some fees (hopefully can transfer some to Mahaloians as discount).
Win-win. Asked in this http://www.mahalo.com/answers/mahalo-answers-community/can-mahalo-implement-groupon-like-features-when-it-has-mahalo-store question.
Yes, game cards such as WoW cards are good... and I'd love to buy those using my M$ balance! But to go larger than that...for video games lovers...how about something like Steam? store.steampowered.com/ Buying games through direct download is the latest trend.
You must be aware that some users can’t order products from USA (ex: video games) because they have to pay high shipping costs and additional custom fees. In my case, if I buy a game from USA for $45, I have to pay, around $20 for shipping (which takes 2 weeks) and $10 the custom fee. Therefore we have a total of $75 and I have to wait for 2 weeks.
But using this method, I pay $45 and wait 2 hours, maybe less. How about Xbox Subscription cards?
I agree with @jeffhoard that it is really exciting to see charities included. I have myself just finished an experiment that I did not realize was an experiment at the time I was doing it - but I have a gut feeling that if you included these charities - you would not only ensure that I came back every week for life, but a lot of other folks. Take a LOOK at HOW MANY folks have had such fun discussion spirituality in the last few weeks online.
WOW, I was just floored. I have been here since Answers started and I have NEVER had such positive reactions to my questions - THE SPIRIT FOLKS HAVE IT BY A COUNTRY MILE! My experiment: these folks just LOVE to discuss their spirit! YEAH! Imagine what it would be like if all the folks who donate to all the above organizations accepted the welcome to come into Mahalo and earn their seed faith gifts on Mahalo for their charities - that would be AMAZING!
These folks just LOVE to discuss their SPIRT man! 1. MY1 Best Praise and Worship Songs of All Time (loads slowly) 1. MY0 P.S.If you want to make it really interesting for yourselves - you could match the donations sent to them from Mahalo in some way either like Canada did for about a month for Haiti for I forget the exact amount I think it was for over 60 million dollars, or you could do a partial match, almost all of these organizations have charitable status for tax purposes in the United States I imagine - probably also Crossroads from Canada and llsong from Australia but check each one of 1.
MY1, say, if you were to donate the admin fee, and keep track of it, then that would give you a tax rebate for Mahalo income. Mark Cuban has taken donations to an art form in his Dallas Mavericks NBA basketball team sponsored and other organizatons - they do really interesting fundraising and charity kinds of things there also for more info - haven't seen anyone do it better than them fyi if looking for more ideas to become more abundant in income AND give to others to help them. But just putting the charities above would really rock my socks!
If you need anyone to write emails of support for you guys to do that for them I would be happy to write to them for ya! :) GOOD LUCK!
I would like to see beads, wires, and craft items too. I also like the idea of gift cards to be used all over the world. Just in case, I want to go on a world trip....I like to see craft items too.
May be there are other craft people around. Can we transfer the amount to our existing Mastercard or Visa too?
I was gonna say BestBuy but you got that already so here's my petition. World of Warcraft prepaid game cards. I can always use some of those.
Christmas came early this year! I've been waiting for this Mahalo store (and asking @jeffhoard) for over a year. For me, iTunes Gift Cards are a must.
Best Buy gift cards would be fun, but once again iTunes Gift Cards are my top priority. Other than that, anything else is a plus. Jason said we would not have to fill out W9 forms for gift cards. Is this still the case?
Thank you Mahalo, you rock!
I love what you have so far - I would buy an iPod and Amazon gift cards for myself, definitely. Question, though: when we buy from the store, will a M$ still be worth $0.75?
Great idea-the store! About time. Lol Us who haven't been able to "win" the Mahalo towel and mug can actually use our $M to buy them.
Great idea! If I had my druthers about what card, I would suggest a Visa card or Walmart. Those are probably the two most used gift cards used.
The Visa cards would be good for those people who don't have Paypal to cash out to. Thanks and can't wait to see it live@ Char :-) P.S. Thanks Lon for answering about still being able to cash out the $M into Paypal. I would hate for you guys to switch to all gift cards.
:-).
I'd be partial to the Amazon and Target gift cards. And, as wy has pointed out, I definitely think there should be some discount-type benefit to get us to buy them. I'm thinking of the Discover Card model, where you can use your cashback rewards for gift cards and items.
For example, I can get my $40 cashback reward in cash, or I can get a $50 gift card to Talbot's (for example) and make my reward go 25% further! Https://discovercard.com/cardmembersvcs/rewards/....
Can you get them, I didn't see that in the pic but if they are already there that would be great, they make great gifts..... Also, you must make sure the cards you do have available work in other countries besides the US. I know must is a strong word to use but I find so many sites don't offer enough variety for non-US members.... The store merchandise is GREAT! And I want a mug for my morning tea!
Since the summer is coming lets add some swim wear and sun screen in the mahalo store. Also it would be nice to have some sun glasses.
Wow. This is really exciting ... A Mahalo store which we can use our Mahalo Dollars! 8-) The only thing I am doubting is if I purchase something at Mahalo store, can you guys ship it outside US to countries like Sri Lanka?
I really want to buy the iPods and some other tech stuff. But here in Sri Lanka the things are sold at double prices. 8-( It would be really really nice if you can ship it to Sri Lanka.
Costs for shipping can be reduced from the Mahalo balance. Also, will I be able to purchase any Audio CDs, Movie DVDs ... or Game DVDs?
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
