I think they confuse evolution with abiogenesis for the same rason they confuse evolution with atheism. They're taught that they're all the same thing, and that they're evil. Period.

No questions allowed. Evolution has nothing to do with life coming from non-life, nor does it have anything to do with whether or not there is a God. It simply explains how life adapts.

It's not the same thing. Abiogenesis theorizes that life could have began where amino acids were present in a non-living thing.
