The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly Not his newest book, but I really enjoyed it. The main character is a "flawed hero". I get tired of the perfect superheros (or superheroins) that appear in most novels.
This character is a lawyer who is in it for the money - no excuses. He defends anyone who can pay him - and adjusts the price accordingly. As the book opens up he is hired to defend a rich man accused of battery and rape.
This case will change his life - or will it? I am hoping connelly will bring this character back in more books. Clay Harvey is another author - not new - that has a terrific series (sorry, I like series).
The books are "A Flash of Red", "A Whisper of Black" and "Dwelling in the Gray". The main character is a man who interupts a bank robbery, shoots one of the robbers and becomes a target - along with his family. Unfortunately for the criminals, he is an ex-sniper, highly-trained and extremely good... David Wiltse has a 2 book series (I wish he would write more in this series) that I really enjoy.
The main character is Billy Tree, a former US Treasury Agent (secret service). The books are "Heartland" and "Hangman's Knot". After his partner is killed during a secret service investigation, Billy goes home to a small town in Nebraska.
He is traumatised by his partners death, refusing to carry a gun anymore...Naturally, his mentor, the town sheriff needs his help in solving a murder.... Just a couple of suggestions you may enjoy. FYI - I own a used/new book store, so I read alot...It's a tough job, but someone has to do it... pbplace www.paperbackplace.com .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
