I worry most about rod bearing noises, but you say it's been doing it for a long time. Rod bearings tend not to make noise for a long time, then suddenly stop! Sounds more like piston head contact.

Many manufacturers used the same paint colors and just gave them diffrent names. The master identifier is an IM or intermix number. Go to the website, pick an auto maker, Packard, Pierce Arrow, Cadillac, Chrysler, etc. then pick a year.
A page will come up. The earlier years will just show ... more.
I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
