I think the "mosque" should be built. But I don't agree with you that "it will make people angry" isn't a valid reason. It is - negative consequences always count as valid reasons not to do something.
In your example, the anger that a child feels about a bath is a valid reason not to give the bath. That isn't to say it is a conclusive reason - the child still gets the bath anyway. I don't think there are any reasons that would lead us to conclude the mosque shouldn't be built, but I do think that anger is a valid consideration against it.
It is just overridden by a bunch of other reasons, like the right of the property owner, the need to stand up against bigotry, and the need to avoid setting a troubling precedent by allowing prejudiced public opinion to stop the construction of unpopular religious buildings. Yummy Cookies: There is already a strip club or two close by, so the owner pretty clearly could build one if he wanted. And if the owner of the property wanted to build a gay club, I think he should be allowed to do that too.
Or an internet cafe, or donate the land to become a public library. I would be as supportive if there was a Satanist church being built there. Frankly, I don't care whether or not you distrust how consistently I and others support minority rights; the point you should be concerned about is that in this case we are and those (including you?) on the other side are not.
I am against building this mosque. Why? Because I have solid evidence that Islam and Muslims (regardless of being moderate or extremests) are a grave threat to the sovereignty of a secular country.
When Muslim population remains a minority they are the most gentle people on earth going by their daily activities. And when this number grows a little bit, they first thing they start demanding for, is a mosque..when their wish fulfilled next comes many other demands like halaal food, constant whining over criticizm of Islam, etc. the next phase is violence and riot at the slight hint of anything not in favor of Islam. Recall the Muslim riots in France.
And when muslim population has become like 30% or 40% percent they start demanding for a State out of state, burning example includes is India. This country was torn apart into two JUST because Muslims couldn't live peacefully with Hindus as usuall. Look at Russia, Muslims are trying to create their own state.
Look at Philipine, they are trying to create their own state out of the state. Look at Thailand, Former Yogoslavia..Everywhere there is a good number of Muslims there is a national security risk..
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
