My 11yr old's Walthers HO trainset is too fragile and fussy. Any rec's on durable, nice trains for a kid her age? I have been looking around for a train set that has stronger construction, but is suitable for a kid her age -ideally, one that's more grown-up than a Thomas, but not something so delicate and hobbyist-quality that she can't have fun with it.
By the way, I was thinking of something in the Z to HO range, but not larger. We don't have the space in the family room to go larger. Thanks for any thoughts you have.

Go with O-guage It will laste forever, even though it's larger. HO probably isn't appropriate until they get to about 16 if they are still interested.
1 ceprn, regarding your answer "Go with O-guage":Thanks. If O-gauge is more durable, then I'll consider it. I am also thinking about a simple 'layout' for the train.
I stress Simple. I want one I can realistically construct in a few days, weeks. I can't buy something at great expense that takes months to perfect.
Because, this isn't going to be a hobby for my daughter, and I want her to enjoy the 'experience' more than anything. I am willing to put some moderate effort & time into making the layout. Ideas?
-Cheers! .

2 O guage is much more durable - but it's a lot larger and generally more expensive.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
