My 15 month old daughter hates her teeth brushed. Anything I can do?

My 15 month old daughter hates her teeth brushed. Anything I can do? She has 6 front teeth and three molars coming in, and whenever it's time to brush her teeth, she happily runs to the bathroom saying “Tee!

Tee! Tee! ” (that’s how she says “teeth”) She always acts as though she wants to get her teeth brushed, but every time I begin to brush them, she flips out and won’t let me.

:o( I know how important brushing her teeth is (mainly because I suffered from severe tooth decay at a very young age due to my parents negligence). Asked by c0w_Tippah 57 months ago Similar questions: 15 month daughter hates teeth brushed Family.

Try to make it as fun as possible, and be patient My son is about the same age as your daughter, and really didn't like having his teeth brushed until recently (well -- at least he tolerates it now, lol). When we first tried to do it, I just thought his little gums were too sensitive. So I asked our family dentist what he recommended (and he has kids, too) and he said it was perfectly okay to start by using just a damp washcloth to sort of "wipe" the teeth off.

He said, once more teeth broke through, to keep trying w/ the toothbrush but it didn't have to be a long, arduous process -- just to make it consistent every day and he thought my son would eventually accept it. So, I decided to try the washcloth. It worked pretty well, though I did get bitten a number of times (lol) .. .

But I think the point was more about letting my son get used to the idea of oral hygiene overall than how clean I got his teeth. After a few weeks of mostly the washcloth, I started with a very soft toothbrush and just wet it and did the front couple of teeth . .. Then added a few more teeth a week or so later (still trying to clean them w/ the cloth in the meantime) ... And a few more in another week, and so on.

Now, we just make it part of his morning and bedtime routine (usually, it's right after changing into clothes/jammies, respectively) and he even smiles a little bit now -- which gives me even better access. I didn't buy any fancy brush for him -- just a very soft, kids' style one from the supermarket, but I saw a really cool one OneStepAhead.com. It looks pretty cool, because it has a handle that your child can hold, and it looks like it's much softer than the "regular" ones you can buy in the store.(Wish I had thought to look at their website a few months ago!) Here's the link: onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?pro... Also, we brush our dog's teeth with a finger-style brush (like a thimble) and I had told my husband I was thinking about getting a fresh one to use for our son if he didn't transition to the regular brush, because at least my finger would have been better protected!

It probably sounds silly -- but I was ready to find something that worked! Just keep trying to make it fun for her and keep it very low-key until it just becomes a habit. Good luck!

I'd give your daughter the toothbrush without toothpaste a few times and let her brush her own teeth. She might like the feel on her gums and teeth better if she does it herself for awhile. She might just suck on it or play with it but it will become a non-threatening item if she has the control at first.

Then you can go to "you can brush your teeth and then Mommy will brush them after you. " You know desensitizing the toothbrushing experiencing a bit at a time.At her age she is probably unlikely to develop decay if regular brushing isn't done, but you'll want to get in a good habit of dental hygiene soon. Work at it daily but involve her as part of the routine.

It worked with my two kids!.

2 Ideas One, let her brush them herself - while you brush yours. Children want to emulate their parents, so if you brush your teeth while she brushes hers. Then let her check if you diod a good job, and if not, brush more - of course this is just so you can check if >sheTwo, I think there are some extremely child friendly toothpaste flavors - try to get her to choose one of these.

Ultimately, she's got baby teeth right now and they will fall out naturally and be replaced. It's important to teach her good teeth cleaning, but you've got a while before she gets adult teath and it's critical..

You have to show her you love brushing your teeth! See our answers to this recently answered question: askville.amazon.com/askville/ClosedQuest... You'll have to be a good example before you can happily pass this on to your child. Singing songs or buying books & dvd's with happy children brushing will help to assist you in this process.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
