My 1st gen kindle froze while reading with a page of text on the screen. Power off - text remains. Charge/reset nothin?

First of all, opening the back of your Kindle has voided any/all warranties that it might have had. Next the only "reset" button that I'm aware of, is the switch you use to turn the unit on. To reset a Gen2 Kindle you hold the switch over to the right for 30seconds+ and then release.

Also, when charging a Gen2 Kindle are you sure, your using the factory AC adapter->USB adapter, NOT an Ipod adapter? Unfortunately, Apple AC->USB adapters are NOT compatible with Kindle. I would make sure your using an "approved" AC->USB adapter, then charge the KIndle for a few hours, then try the reset process with the unit still connected to the charger, and see what happens.

Ultimately your attempt to save money (by buying an aftermarket battery) might cost you more in the long run. The last info that I have, Amazon.com was going to charge a simple fee to replace a dead battery on an out of warranty Kindle; and upon the payment of this fee ($60? American I think) they would ship you a replacement device, and then you would return your dead unit, to which they would replace the battery at their convenience and use it to replace another customers dead/broken Kindle.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
