My 3 1/2 year old son frequently closes his left eye when talking. Anybody have any idea why?

My 3 1/2 year old son frequently closes his left eye when talking. Anybody have any idea why? This is indoor and outdoors so it isn't the sun or anything.

I know there could be several reasons for this but I'm just trying to get an idea of what types of issues could be causing this. When he is doing this, my wife and I frequently ask him to open his eye(s) and he does so without a problem. He does this while at school and at home.

I recommend taking him to a Pediatric Ophthalmologist, which is an MD for eyes, not an Optometrist who is kinda like the equivalent of a chiropractor for eyes (ie not a doctor). My son had some depth perception issues at that age and he would sometimes close one eye. And he ran into things, like walls.

Big things that didn't move and should have been avoidable. Part of that was just being a fast moving inattentive boy, but part of it was his vision issues. I didn't realize how much specialized equipment there is for checking kids eyes vs adult eyes.

See you pediatrician for a consult about this and they can refer you to the right eye doctor if they find any vision issues. And it could just be a quircky habit, like biting your nails. But you pediatrician should be able to help you at least rule out medical causes for the behavior.

Good luck. Shaelyn's Recommendations I Can Read With My Eyes Shut! (Beginner Books) Amazon List Price: $8.99 Used from: $0.01 Average Customer Rating: 4.0 out of 5 (based on 15 reviews) .

I did this as a child and I still do this... I was diagnoised with having a "lazy eye" when I was 5 and was told ot wear a patch for a month but my mother thought it was dumb and didn't do it. I close my left eye alot becuase it doesn't focus in on things and my brain shuts it off pretty much. I don't even notice it until peopel say something.

It sometimes does effect my driving and seeing things to my left... but it hasnt been a real problem...i also got told if it does become a real problem I can get an operation done to cure it...i would take him to a optomatrist and have his vision checked...

It could be a medical problem. He may be closing his eye or squinting because he needs glasses. Has he had a professional eye exam to rule out any vision problems?

Also, has his pediatrician ruled out Ptosis, a problem with the levator muscle, which raises the eyelid? It’s always important to rule out any medical reason first when you see something abnormal that continues for an extended period of time. You didn’t mention how long he has been doing this or if he just suddenly started doing this.

Please have it checked out professionally. Although rare, this can be a symptom of more serious problems, so it’s best to be safe and to rule them out. Sources: Registered nurse for 30 yrs.

It is either vision or muscles both possibilities need to be checked by a pediatric opthamologist.

I have a nervous tick where I turn to look behind me a lot, that stemmed from getting rear-ended by quite a few idiots. You're not divorced from his biological mum, are you? It's amazing what things can trigger emotional and psychological problems in children, from parents who argue, drink, &/or abusive, to losing a close loved one from an early age.

(I'm talking from personal experience, I hope you realise. I'm just trying to let you know that there's a lot of little things that might be hard to notice/realise at first that could be causing this problem. ) Of course, I'm hoping perhaps your son just needs glasses or has some sort of astigmatism that can be easy fixed.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
