My Apple iBook G4 went totally black and silent. Light around power cord is green and button on bottom lights up green dots. What's wrong?

If its not turning on at all its a power issue, dead battery. Since you have lights its probably not that. If it boots but stays at a loading screen you can check the hard drive by holding down the shift key and it will boot into safe mode.

Even better is to hold down command + v to boot into verbose mode. You'll get to see if there is a kernel panic or disk problem. If that happens you're hard drive is busted but you can attempt the various methods to repair using disk utility or booting into single user mode and typing Finally, you could boot from another mac into whats called target mode.

You could then get files from the hard drive. Let me know if you have any questions. Be happy to help.

My MBP hd died last week and I spent a bunch of time trying to fix it before I swapped it out.

If there's no sound at all I'm guessing its your hard drive (if you could hear it and not see anything I'd guess maybe video/logic board). Apple support suggests resetting the PRAM, worth a shot support.apple.com/kb/TS1367.

When you boot up your Mac Book listen carefully if can hear a clicking sound then its the harddrive that has failed,,, or did you hear a clicking sound when it was working before it went dead?...

Like the previous answer, resetting the pram is the first troubleshooting step. But since you are getting nothing then I don't think the pram is going to help. Sounds like a logic board has gone out.

Here is what I would do: If an Apple store is near by book a FREE Genius Bar appointment. apple.com/retail You won't have Apple fix it but they should give you a pretty good idea of what is wrong. If it's something serious like a logic board.

A repair will cost more than the iBook is worth. Unless you got a nice friend who wants to install a new logic board for you. It's not an easy job.

A ton of little tiny screws. 54 steps on ifixit.com for a logic board removal. I would rip the hard drive out, put it in an external case IDE ATA type.

IBook's didn't have SATA so don't get the wrong case. Get your data off, then sell the iBook for parts on eBay. Make $50 or so on it.

Finally, get a new MacBook. You know you want one and now you need one!

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
