I was advised when my children (3 of them, now grown) were newborn to sponge bathe them while taking care to not get the umbilical cord wet. If it gets wet it won't dry out, essentially forming a scab, and could lead to infection. So I would say, gently wipe your baby down, maybe with a damp washcloth or baby wipe, and avoid the navel area, until the cord shrivels up and falls off on its own.
I see a lot of outdated advice here. Rubbing alcohol is no longer recommended for caring for the cord stump. Just keep it clean and dry.
And no, that no longer means only sponge baths. Baby can have a regular bath as long as you keep it reasonably short, and dry the area well after the bath.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
