I'm going to link you to some recent questions/answers about this topic There have been a couple of similar questions asked regarding breastfeeding and milk supply over the past few months so, rather than retype my answers (they were LONG), I'm going to link you to those questions & answers so you can read them. Make sure to check out the discussion boards, too, because a lot of people put info in that way. Here is the link to the most recent one: askville.amazon.com/askville/AnswerViewe... and the one prior to that can be found here: askville.amazon.com/askville/ClosedQuest... Both answers talk about the frequency of breastfeeding/pumping, give ideas for things you can do to to potentially increase your milk supply, and encourage use of outside resources like La Leche League, lactation consultants and the like.

I'd encourage you to take a deep breath and sit down when you have a bit of time to sift through the info that is offered. I was a low-suppy mom to a boy born more than 13 weeks early, so I really feel for you on this issue. I was determined to give my son breastmilk as long as I could (my supply lasted for about 10 1/2 months) and I still maintain that the reason he has not hit some of the usual "bumps" along the preemie road is because he got at least 50% breastmilk until he was almost a year old.

I would encourage you to find someone who can work with you on the breastfeeding situation. In my case, our local health department offered lactation consultants via phone and home visit, and I kept in touch with the lactation coordinator from the hospital where my son stayed. They have a wealth of information available, and can give you tips depending on your unique situation (for example, it helped me to pump just a little before trying to breastfeed because then my letdown was much more quick).

Best wishes to you as you try to figure out what will work for you. Whatever you do, please don't guilt yourself if you need to supplement, or if you are unable to breastfeed, or choose to pump instead. You are obviously trying to do what you feel is best for your baby and you need to give yourself credit for the effort you are putting into it!

LLL The best thing you can do if you really want to continue breastfeeding is find a lactation consultant and/or your local La Leche League. Most women have problems breastfeeding, especially with a first baby. It can be very frustrating, but there are people who can help you.

For me, pumping has always been very frustrating with very little result. The best way to build your milk supply is to keep nursing. Once you start using formula many babies prefer it and will quit nursing entirely. It fills them for longer and for some it is easier than nursing.

It sounds like your biggest issue is latching on. If she's not latching on properly then she's not stimulating the milk flow properly either. See a professional who can help you.

La Leche League leaders are not only trained to teach you, they're also trained to be very positive. Many of them are also professional lactation consultants too. You will feel much better after meeting with someone and finding answers for your specific needs.

Breast milk banks I had the same experience. Mine never came in :( But I know many people who have not had that problem and I have heard there are breast milk banks. I would check with your doctor and see if there are any in your area.

If all else fails just feed them formula. I made the torturous decision and he was healthier and still is than my daughter who I was able to breast feed. My doctor told me that as far as IQ is concerned that the physical contact is more important than the actual breast milk.

Good luck I know you have a difficult decision. I did find this website breastfeeding.com/all_about/all_about_mi..." rel="nofollow">breastfeeding.com/all_about/all_about_mi... Sources: breastfeeding.com/all_about/all_about_mi..." rel="nofollow">breastfeeding.com/all_about/all_about_mi... .

I had a kid like that... I'm not a natural mom fanatic, but I really believe strongly in breastfeeding. I had this problem with my oldest daughter. Once she had milk from a bottle, it was all over; she didn't have time for breast feeding.

She was very active, and not very cuddly. She had a lot allergy problems later, and I really wish I had been able to work this out. My second child I had no problem with.

She wasn't in a hurry, and I never used bottles with her. I never used a pump. I got one before my first baby was born, and the obgyn's nurse recommended strongly against it.

She said it was bad for the breast and wanted me to get rid of it ASAP. If your daughter is a large baby, it could be that she needs more and it may be time to start giving her a little cereal. If she wasn't as hungry, maybe she would be more patient.

Ussually month four is when when they grow faster, and may be hungrier than the milk supply though. I have heard that drinking a beer can help the milk come down. I'm not recommending going on a bender, just drink one bottle of beer.It could also be that there is something medical bothering her.

Maybe she needs to go to see her doctor. I would recommend that you continue to try to get her to breastfeed. Good luck and best wishes to you.

I know this is a trying time.

Don't sweat it... While giving your child breast-milk is the prefered way to go, not all mothers are biologically capable of providing it. If you've already given the pump a few weeks, and it's not working, resign yourself to formula and bottles. There are those who condemn baby formula as being no healthier than soda.

Those people are loons. The truth is that while breast milk is preferable to formula, formula remains a very healthy alternative. If you've given breastfeeding an honest effort, you shouldn't feel guilty about putting away the pump and switching to formula.

If you're producing a small amount of milk - but not enough - you can always mix it with formula. I've found a few studies concerning the effects of mother's milk tea, fenugreek, and other herbs. None of them have any noticable effect on milk production.

Save your money; you'll need it to pay for formula. :D Sources: Personal experience (from a father's perspective) .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
