When the dramatic irony wears off I wait for the crocuses to pop up. Then I wait for a late cold snap to kill them all. After that happens, it's spring.

I'm in the middle of that cold snap right now. It was 50 last week, and tonight we're expecting a sleet storm. The charming thing about this area is that it doesn't just get cold.

It hovers right around freezing, so the water says liquid and splashes into your socks. That way you get to be cold AND wet. The crocuses, somehow, always manage to survive that late cold snap and are always quite lovely.

Tips of daffodils but There is a snow storm due tomorrow and we could get 8" depending on which weather forecaster you listen to. Argh. Those daffodils send up shoots every year beginning in February and always get snowed on and iced on but boy do they look beautiful when late in March or so they finally show their color!

That's about all for southern New England but I am so ready for spring and warmer weather! .

When all the yard screams at me to come out and work! My dafs are in full bloom, the deciduous magnolia near door is starting to blossom (it sometimes gets frosted when it does this), robins are everywhere and the squirrels are going crazy (baby squirrels will soon be on the way). The forsythia hasn't really started but it is thinking about it.

Then there are the tiny weeds... so delicate, so green... so many! You think, ok I will nip these in the bud tomorrow and come back to find they are growing like kudzu in summer! We could still have a frost, heck we could still have an ice storm but yesterday was springlike (short sleeves while walking) and it is not all that cold as it rains but headed back down toward the 30s tonight.

If it is a rollercoaster ride in temperature, it is (almost) spring in Atlanta! Sources: 28 years of being a fair flower of Southern womanhood! .

There are any number of ways, but the easiest way to tell is when the leaf litter in my flower beds begins to rise up almost magically. I pull it aside to see all of my many varieties of hostas beginning to poke their little heads above the soil. Later, when my viburnum bush begins to flower and fills my yard (and house through open windows) with its sweet lilac-like scent.

Everything begins to grow and bloom and blossom and then, the truest sign of spring arrives when I get the very first mosquito bite of the new year on top of my bald head. Several signs signal Spring for me. The Robins, of course are the surest sign. Then there are the Daffodils.

Here they call them Buttercups. The next thing to bloom is the Bradford Pear tree. Not far behind that is the fishing.

We live near a place that is famous for fishing and hunting, and that is Paris, Tennessee. You know it's Spring when you start seeing the boats behind the pickup trucks! In April, Paris has the Worlds Largest fish fry.

It is a well known fact that you can't put your Winter clothes away until after 'Fish Fry'. They have the parades, the fair, you name it. It is a really big deal!

That is the final sign that Spring has arrived. Hope this has made you feel a little warmer and more like Spring! It isn't far off!
