Many possible problems... Okay, there could be a number of issues here: virus/malware infections, bad software firewall, corrupted TCP/IP protocol stack, bad Windows update, etc. To address the virus/malware infection angle, I'd advise taking the machine to a professional who will scan it for you. Yes, there are many who say that you can scan it yourself by installing this program or that utility and running them on the infected machine. However, take it from me--a professional with over 20 years of experience in the field--that will resolve only about 80% of the infections.
Viruses tend to get into the core of the OS and, thus, cannot be removed while the OS is running on that machine. The way that a professional will scan the computer is by removing the hard drive and attaching it to a diagnostic computer as a secondary drive. This will allow the removal of any and all infected files.
After that, the drive is reinstalled in the computer and the registry is scanned for any settings that may have been modified by the infections. This process takes awhile but it is the most sure way to make certain that all infections are gone. If the issue is a software firewall gone bad, then my suggestion is remove the blasted thing and throw it away!
Once again, in my professional experience, I have never seen anything good come of a software firewall (such as ZoneAlarm, BlackICE Defender, Windows Firewall, Norton Internet Security, McAfee Internet Security, etc. ). At the minimum, they are nuisances as they continually ask if this program or that program is allowed to access the Internet. If you make a mistake and say no (as I've seen people do for Internet Explorer and then wonder why they cannot browse websites), then you have to go into the maze of setup options to undo that mistake.
As just about everyone nowadays has a broadband (cable/DSL modem) connection to the Internet, the best solution is a router anyway.(If you want to know more about the comparison of the two, let me know and I'll gladly discuss it with you. I won't address it here since that is not pertinent to this query. ) The way to tell whether it is the software firewall getting in the way is by disabling it.
In the case of the Windows Firewall, go into the Control Panel, double-click on Windows Firewall, and click on the Off radio button and click OK.In the case of McAfee's or Norton's Internet Security suite, bring up their main screen (normally by double-clicking on the icon in the System Tray, which is the area down by the clock in the lower right corner of your screen). On the main screen for the appropriate program, you should see something that says, "Firewall On. " Click on that selection and turn it off.
Norton will ask you for how long. To keep things simple, just select 5 minutes. Once you have it off, try to access the Internet.
If you can get to it, you've found your problem. Get rid of that pile of junk (or just leave Windows Firewall turned off if that is the problem software) and get Norton Antivirus 2009. That will give you all the protection you need without all the extra junk you don't.(Once again, I will be glad to discuss the reason for Norton Antivirus in a private conversation but will not address it here.) There is also the chance that the TCP/IP protocol stack is corrupted.
This is one of the easiest fixes possible and most often is the problem with dial-up connections but also occasionally fixes broadband problems. All you need to do is get to a DOS prompt (Start | Accessories | Command Prompt) and type the following command: net sh int ip reset c:\reset. Txt and press Enter.
If you want to see what all it did, look at the text file reset. Txt in the root of your C: drive. You will find lots of various registry entries that were refreshed with appropriate settings and so forth.
After doing this, you will want to reboot. If that doesn't fix the problem, then it's time to consider the next possibility. Windows Update does not always complete successfully and it has been known to hose things up royally when it fails to do so.
Recently, for example, I found that Windows was trying to install an update to Internet Explorer 7 and did something wrong so that IE7 had to be removed and IE6 had to be put back onto the machine. At that point, IE7 was re-downloaded and re-installed successfully along with all updates and patches. Only after doing all that did IE7 work normally.(IE6 was working fine as well for accessing the Internet but the client needed IE7 for his business operations, so we had to get that back up and running.
) If none of these solutions work, then talk to a professional and see what else might be the cause. There are very few other issues that I can think of that would be common to both wired and wireless, so something else must be amiss and only a physical examination of the machine by a professional would be able to determine the cause. Let me know if I can be of any further help.
I am glad to assist any way I can. Sources: 20 Years of Professional Experience and Daily Interaction with Clients .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
