Well, In most cases I say "talk to your vet", but with the children being at risk, I'd say you've made the right decision to put her down. Keep in mind that: Where there is no quality of life, there is no life to enjoy. When you have to make this type of decision, you will worry about if it's right because of your love of your dog.
Your children's safety is the most important thing you must guard. I'm sorry that it seems to be the right decision, but even your dog knows (after the fact) that her aggressiveness is wrong. She may have some illness like a brain tumor that's altering her personality and she can't control what she does like she used to.
Remember to google Rainbow Bridge and use the support and help available through those websites. Our dogs become our children and the loss of one hurts as much as loss of your child would hurt -!
People spend thousands trying to their dog alive. Keep the children, and dogs in seperate rooms.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
