My female cat picks(bites) her nipples and makes them bleed. Why does she do this and is there anything I can do? Asked by ketaylor 32 months ago Similar questions: female cat picks bites nipples makes bleed Pets.

Sounds like stress... I don't have feline companions, but I had one when I was a teenager, and I loved her very much. My Mom was never good at the taking-care-of-pets-thing, though, and I was a kid, so we just had her, you know? She was never taken to the vet, or anything like that.
But, I have four pooches now, and it turns out that I AM good at the taking-care-of-pets-thing That said, I can't say for sure that I'd know about a cat's well being, but as far as pet health is concerned, I suppose that similar behaviors apply. So, I want to say that it sounds like stress to me. When a pet harms him/her-self it's usually stress.
What could causing your pet stress? Did you recently move, or get a new pet? Anything different or new in her sorroundings could cause this behavior, changing her bedding, her bedding's location, your/her schedule, changing her food, etc, etc, etc... Also, does she, maybe, have fleas?
Skin itching/irritation? These are all guesses. My suggestion is jot down her actions.
When does she do it? Keep a vigilant eye on her, and document everything you observe. This will help you see if there's a pattern.
Also, present your information to the vet. Hope it works out for your kitty Sources: moi .
1 I have no idea, but I'll bet that a VETERINARIAN would! This user has been banned from Askville.

2 I must admit this is a new one to me! Is there any chance she has infected nipples (like mastitis)? Is she currently or recently nursing?
This could even be some sort of anxiety behavior, although I am more used to seeing cats over-groom or pull out their fur as an anxiety behavior. I do agree with MarshallO; it would be best to have your cat checked out by your vet. Just because we don't have the answer for you here doesn't mean that the vet won't know (or be able to find out) just what is causing your kitty to bite herself. At the least, she could (and eventually probably will) get an infection from the open sores...Please come back to this discussion board, and let us know what the vet said was going on, OK?
Thanks,Katherine .

3 I don't think she is under any stress. No new animals, food, or home. She does groom herself a lot but it doesn't result in anything bad like bare spots... She's just exceptional clean.
I just thought that she was being nitpicky and didn't want anything on her stomach so she tried to bite them off. It hadn't happen that often and with a lot of time in between so at first I thought it was an isolated incident but I guess not now. Let me tell you that her nipples aren't bleeding badly when I've noticed they just looked a little raw like when you pick at your cuticles so I'm not being a bad mommy and just ignoring it!
I will letcha know what I find out at the vet.

Cat lover of Askville, be counted. " "What makes mosquito bites itch?" "can a female dog be in heat and not bleed" "HOW LONG DO FEMALE DOGS BLEED AND HOW OFTEN? " "do female cats bleed when they are in heat?

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
