You don't need a passport when flying domestic. You don't need a green card, either. Driver's License or State ID card is what you need.. If your green card is about to expire it means you've been in the US long enough to have at least gotten a State ID card, if not a Driver's License.

That's all you need to take with you.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
