1 You need to check with a lawyer or your local municipal/state/county housing authority on this. If your building is going into receivership because the current owner can't keep up the mortgage payments, the bank will probably not have to honor any agreements you made with him. Local and state ordinances vary on what happens to tenants in these cases.

2 I have never heard of this in NY either - I know there are a lot of folks who would love this to be the case. Perhaps your state has guidelines...I know that when houses are sold under unusual circumstances you do need to take the tenant or provide for them but who could do it in this case...and there are many loopholes around it as well. Get legal advice.

IchtheosaurusRex replied to post #2: 3 There was a story in the news a while ago about a Long Island woman who was losing her rented house because her landlord had defaulted on the mortgage. She had held up her part of the lease. So unless they have changed the state law there recently, I don't think there is anything on a state level that would help.

4 Get your security deposit back now from your old landlord, or you will lose it forever. Any new owners will not be required to give it back to you. Can't add anything that the others haven't said.It is legal to ask you to sign a lease.

However, that will not prevent you from being evicted by the bank or new owners.

5 A lease signed after the mortgage was recorded isn't going to be binding on the bank unless the bank also signed off on it, which they never do except on big commercial deals.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
