My old washing machine died - so what do I get: front-loader or top-loader?

Average weekly use: 15 full loads a week. Any model suggestions, as well as types? Need something that can take big loads and last for years.

Front-loaders are ideal but much much more expensive I recently bought a new washer. I really wanted a front-loader for the energy efficiency and all the other perks (including load size and convenience). Unfortunately I also wanted a lot of other things and I had to admit that all of the sexy features on most washing machines don't mean much to me; I'm not a clothes horse and I mostly wash jeans and t-shirts.

And I wanted a new dining room table. And top-loaders are much much cheaper. I think front-loaders will get cheaper much like all sorts of electronics do; hopefully by the time I need a new one.

If possible... go to one of the appliance stores that lets you try out the appliances before you buy them. Our local "Maytag" store will let you run a load of laundry, or bake cookies, or whatever before buying one of their appliances. The reason I suggest this is that I had been wanting a front-loading washing machine for a long time.

Then, when I went to visit my sister, I used her front-loading machine and absolutely HATED it. It was very tempermental, shutting down if I used too much soap, etc. And I did not feel that the capacity was as good as my top-loading washer. I don't believe it was an issue unique to the brand, as I've heard the same report from others who own different brands of front-loading washers.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
