Sounds as if it is reaching the set temperature (check thermostat for accuracy) or it may be freezing up and having to defrost.
The thing is supposed to cycle,.... thats what it does. Especially if the set temperature is extremely close to the ambient temperature.... But know this: the front filter must be kept CLEAN. -and there is a small thermostatic bulb that tells the compressor when its cool enough.... If that small bulb touches the evaporator coil, it will cause the unit to short cycle.
-because the cold coil tells the thermostat its cool enough...
I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
