That is a true saying in a way. In life you will never get 'Nothing' as in 'something' for 'Nothing'. Life is all about give-n-take.Example.
(1) We have been created to serve and obey our Creator (Allah/God).
(2) Our parents give birth to us, it brings them joy and extends their family chain.
(3) We grow up and learn, through education and life experience all of which comes at a cost.
(4) We make friends that brings us joy and happiness (give-n-take) and so on.

Everything has a price of sorts.
Life is like a box of chocolates you never know what your gunna get!
