Now my OS is having problem, can I get to boot XP from my Scandisk U3 flash drive?

I just bought a Compaq Evo N410c used. Seems like a good unit, only it came with XP SP1 and I wanted to upgrade to SP3. I don't have the docking station but I do have a SONY DRX-S50U USB DVDR drive which works fine with the laptop except I couldn't get it to boot from the XP CD - until I went to HP's Driver download page for the Compaq Evo N410c and downloaded the BIOS update (the first one on the list, the windows based one).

I downloaded the file to my desktop, ran it and when it rebooted I went into the BIOS and my Sony drive was now listed in the bootable devices section. I was then able to boot from my XP CD and upgrade to SP3. Remember when you are doing a flash update make sure you are connected to AC power.

Interrupting the flash update process will turn your laptop into a brick. (This is why I am always nervous about updating BIOS on any machine but in this case it was worth the risk). Hitesh281's procedure describes how to turn your USB flash into a bootable device however ... more.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
