A responsible breeder will want to meet you before hand and will want to know what kind of living conditions you will be providing the puppy. The most common age that the breeder will allow you to take the puppy is 8 weeks, if the puppy is younger than that, ask if the puppy can stay with the dam until 8 weeks. Check to see if the breeder has all documentation on the puppy, i.e.
Shot record, pedigree, and possibly a health guarantee. You will want to take him/her to the vet within a few days of picking him/her up. The best source is to go to a bookstore and get a breed specific book to ensure that this is ultimately the breed that you want.
The more research you do beforehand, the easier your first few days with the pup will be.
Treat it with deep suspicion. All puppies should have a value for starters. There has to be a reason why these puppies are being given away!
Not to say you might not be looking at a bargain, but you may not. No free lunches and all that. You can only go look (in company with somebody who knows about puppies preferably!), but in this life, you usually get what you (don't) pay for so free may = lots of money at the vets.
And heartbreak! My gut instinct says walk.
I would be very warry of someone giving away a purebred puppy for free. Do you have any idea what I paid for my dogs? They were both $2300 each from a breeder.
They were not cheap and purebreds never are. You need to actually go see this puppy in person and ask why it is being given away for free.
If you want. Just keep in mind that "free" is not free after you buy all the stuff, get shots, worming and spay/neuter the dog at 5-6 months old. And keep in mind that these dogs are likely to have genetic and behavior problems coming from a backyard breeder.
Go to their house to see the conditions of the home, dogs, puppies, etc. If you are in the market for a dog, either get it from a legit breeder or shelter that euthanizes or a rescue. Add: Go with your friend.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
