The nearest star to our Sun is about 4 light years away, the brightest star visible in the northern hemisphere (Sirius) is about 8 light years away. Most of the brighter stars you can see in the sky are between 100 and 1000 light years away. The most distant object visible with the unaided eye is the Andromeda galaxy which is 2.5 million light years away.
Some are closer, some farther; from lightyears to billions of lightyears.
