First of all, don't worry I know you've probably heard it before, but it never hurts to hear it again--all babies are different and they develop at different rates. So don't worry too much at this point--just keep encouraging her and try to keep things fun so that she doesn't get discouraged. The best way I know of to encourage mobility is to place her toys out of her reach.

She'll be motivated to figure out some method of getting to the toys. She can either be sitting and try to lunge forward to get her toys, or you can place her on her tummy to try to get her moving. Use both methods, or whichever makes her less frustrated.

Does she try to move at all? Maybe by scooting around on her bottom? I've seen some babies who just scoot for awhile instead of crawl.My son "creeped" forever--he looked like an army soldier for several months.

I think he was about 10.5 months before he got his tummy off the ground and started really crawling. My niece didn't want to crawl at all. She bear-crawled a little bit, but she basically went straight to walking around 11.5 months.

Like I said, every kid is different. Yours may be one of those kids who goes straight to pulling up and walking. Does she pull to a stand?

You can buy toys to encourage crawling. Its normal for some baby's to want to relax and not get moving but you should encourage it. Building of the mussels and better coordination are very important for a growing one year old.

Once they become mobile there is no stopping them. But every child is different and some babies never crawl, but one day She'll pull herself up and take a step. Don't worry about it.

Sooner or later you WILL be chasing her down the hall. And that will lead to her first day of pre-school, kindergarten, graduation, and the wedding aisle. It goes so fast.
