Please help: I will be teaching summer school at a military school and need help finding enough valid geometry homework. Here's the problem: the kids repeating Geometry (almost all of my students-to-be) will be required to have 2 hours of homework every day. The environment here is EXTREMELY structured (on purpose) and that actually should be do-able, believe it or not.
But--the kids taking Geometry as a new course (and I will have 2 of them) will be required to have 5 hours of homework every single day! That's what I'd love to hear suggestions for: how can I find 3 hours of independent work every day (they do the same first 2 hours as everyone else) for 4 weeks?!? 3 hours a day x 5 days a week x 4 weeks = 60 hours!
If I'd known this a lot earlier, I could have created a few units of work for them (though it would also have been a lot of work for me!), but I just found out yesterday (Thursday), and class starts on Monday. I can figure out 'busy work' (example: write a report on Pythagoras)--but does anyone have any better, more valid, ideas? I hope?

My advice. Don't try to overwhelm your students with too much homework. Trust me on this.
If you do, a good half of them will get turned off and start to either copy each other or just disengage. When you say you are required to give __ amount of homework, keep this in mind. What will take one student half an hour to complete will take another student 5 hours. It doesn't mean the other student is slow or dumb.
It just means they need a bit extra one-on-one time and some encouragement. So if you overwhelm your students then I guarantee you are going to do more damage to them than good..

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
