WebSockets seems like a fairly good choice. The disabling of WebSockets in Firefox 4 and Opera 11 is likely temporary as the working group has begun releasing drafts that address the issues. In addition, the web-socket-js Flash fallback will still work even on browsers where native WebSockets has been disabled.
Also worth noting is that iOS 4.2 has native WebSockets. So with native WebSockets + fallback, WebSockets is supported just about everywhere.
The WS-I group published something called "Reliable Secure Profile" that has a Glass Fish and . NET implementation that apparently inter-operate well.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
