I've used the 2 events, because with rich:comboBox they mean different things. Actually, I'd suggest using the comboBox in your case, it will be more user-friendly.
I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
