It depends on what kind of surgery. For major, you really are not allowed to eat solid foods at least half day prior. It depends on what type of surgery.
If it's a major operation then the patient will not be allowed by the surgeon to eat solid foods. He may be allowed to eat biscuits but just a little and water is okay. No alcohol and sodas.
Like me, when I underwent C-section, I was told not to eat in the morning until 1pm (1pm is the schedule of CS). And after that, I wasn't allowed again to eat more than 12 hours. Even water, my husband was only allowed to moisten a cotton and let it touch my lips.
I was really starving and so thirsty but that's for my own welfare. After 24-hours, I was allowed to drink water but little by little amount even though I was on a catheter. Doctor told me it might make my stomach gets bloated and I just followed her.
You follow your surgeons advice and you're ready for the operation. And you must inform your doctor whatever you had experienced traumatic in order for them to understand if something happens like me that I shiver a lot. They didn't panic anymore, they just observe me because it's normal for me every time I deliver, I always shiver a lot.
They just frequently take my blood pressure, pulse rate and temperature. And I was okay after that. My most important reminder is HEED YOUR DOCTOR'S ADVICE and submit yourself.Pray.

Your doctor will give you all the necessary information - if not, call the nurse! However, for all my surgeries - that were planned - no food 12 hours before - food or water! Make sure they know ALL your medications - including vitamins, aspirins - etc.NO alcohol - it's a blood thinner.
Food or drinking is considering potentially dangerous before a surgery, so follow those rules, very carefully! If you are a diabetic, you need to be really clear on insulin or med instructions before the surgery. If you are on blood thinners, you need to make sure you are not to be on a schedule to wean off the meds - my father was for one of his surgeries.
Whatever you do - follow the instructions and be very detailed on your list of meds! Best of luck to you. Sources: experience .
Please ask your surgeon! You didn't even state what surgery you are having or your age. How can you get a good answer?.
Avvoo_SUCHawitch! Said: 1 NOTHING whatsoever at least 12 hours before surgery except a small sip of water to take necessary medications with. It always makes me cranky though.
I'm one of those people who can do without food, but I want my water! This is because of the possibility of aspirating under anasthesia. This user has been banned from Askville.

2 Definitely, you want to avoid aspirin in any form for a week to 10 days prior to surgery because of it's anticoagulant properties. Didn't your doctor give you specific pre-op intructions? .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
