It would make more sense than what seems to happen at the moment where, judging from some of their comments, it's some of the vegans who visit slaughterhouses - they're the ones who know it all! I think you have a point - I certainly think people should be aware of where their food comes from and how it is produced. I don't know if a slaughter-house is the best venue though as they're not really designed for visitors any more than a steel works is.
I think people should see an animal slaughtered and processed though. However, in the context of food production, I think they should see the bigger picture too. I think they should see the terrible conditions that some poultry is kept in and then see better more humane methods in action.
I think they should visit a dairy farm and see that cattle aren't sexually abused by farm workers, don't spend their time fastened in cages connected to "machines". They should actually learn something about animals like cattle and chickens. Also, they should see the effects on the environment caused by arable farming and the associated use of chemicals.
The destruction of "pests", the loss of habitat, the pollution of waterways etc. They should be taught what words and terms like GMO, organinic, free-range etc. mean. I have been astonished at just how ignorant and misinformed many of the contributors here (on both "sides") about common animals and about the production of their own food. I think EVERYONE should learn the above whether they are "meat eaters" or "tofu eaters"!
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
