If your camera is like mine, they provided a cable to connect between the camera and the USB port. Use that. The computer sees the camera as another drive.
Transfer as with any other files. I do not take the memory card out of my camera. Added value tip.
Always transfer the pictures to a place where you are going to 'store' them first, then copy them from that place to the folder where you sort and work with them. Never have less than two copies of the photo and hopefully on separate drives.
Your camera came with a CD that has the driver for your camera in it. You need to install that first. Then you plug the usb cable into your computer, stick the other end in your camera, and turn the camera on, then open the camera folder and choose View Thumbnails, then left click over you photos and select cut from the dropdown menu.
Right click over your Picture folder and choose Paste.

The digital camera stores the photos as a digital file your computer can easily read. Just plug the camera to the computer via the usb cable. Your computer will probably recognize your camera as an external disk drive.
Move the files from the camera to a folder in your computer and you are all set. You probably won´t need the cd-rom that came with your camera. Most of it is just photo editing software and documentation.
