It's not like that. Well, not exactly. The GOP doesn't really believe in democracy.
They are not only anti-Big-D-Democratic but also anti-small-d-democratic. The leaders of the GOP don't want just regular voters to decide who gets their nomination. So before the primary season even starts, Republican leaders come together and pick a candidate, and line up all the money behind him.
When he enters the race the first, with the most money, the media coronate him the presumptive nominee from the beginning. In this case the leaders clearly picked Romney. Others were allowed to run, to make it look like a real horse race, and so that when Romney finally pulled out in front they could say 'See?
He's a WINNER!' But Romney was so unpopular with Republican voters that each of the other candidates had his time out in front, as Rachel Maddow called them, the Not Romney of the Week. Herman Cain even made an open joke about him being 'the flavor of the month', black walnut. Eventually, only Romney was left.
He was seen as inevitable by both parties, but for different reasons. To Republicans he was 'the best' and had won out through the sheer force of his ideas. To Democrats it was clear from the beginning that he was The Chosen One from the start, and the party simply wasn't going to let anyone beat him.
But the Republican leaders have their voters 'brainwashed' to see party as more important than person. They would vote for Ronald McDonald so long as he was a Republican. And their campaign this year will de-emphasize Mitt and what he stands for and his history as a businessman and gov.
Of Massachusetts It will be totally negative against Obama. Anyone But Obama. Wait and see.
They don't care if the president is incompetent and stupid (like Bush) or hugely corrupt (like EVERY Republican president), so long as he is Republican.
The two huge marketing organizations known as the republican and democrat parties have pulled off one of the greatest feats of all time. They have actually convinced a majority of American voters that not voting for one of them is "throwing your vote away". So many people will vote for the "lesser evil" rather than someone they like - because that would be a waste, according to marketing.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
