You have to understand that some liberals are extremely intolerant of those who don't agree with them. When I heard about the racial slurs, I immediately thought it must be government 'agent provocateurs' because governments don't like protesters. But yesterday, someone posted this link on YA: http://www.crashtheteaparty.org As you can see, this is an attempt by some dems to deliberately sabotage the Tea Party movement.
It is such a huge threat to some people that they will go to any lengths to discredit it. Sad to say, but some people don't respect others rights to have their own opinions about the government. Some liberals are so caught up in the left/right paradigm that they don't realize that the Tea Party does not just include Republicans.
There are Dems, Independents and Libertarians as well. In fact, the TP movement was started by the Libertarians during the Bush administration to protest the bailouts. I do think the movement has been co-opted now and there are certain people working within it to destroy it.
My own experience of the people who are now called "conservatives" in America is not that they are racists. They are basically very greedy people who are deeply paranoid that the government and its regulations are preventing them from fully vindicating their greedy actions, which include all manner of swindles, and selling shoody goods, and wrecking the land, and shady business dealings, and toxic mortgages, and sleazy corrupt earmarks, and Wild Wild West usury, and never-give-a-sucker-an-even-break product and service offerrings. Conservatives of today are willing to exploit black people as employees, as customers, as supply-chain contractors, and as local populations.
They are rapacious sharklike equal opportunity exploiters and devourers. Their mad greed blinds them so much that they couldn't be racists even if they wanted to be. The only color they see is green -- the color of money.
These are violent people, who would tear down all the regulations that have built our way of life in America and leave behind anarchy, and a free-for-all in which the strong survive and the weak perish. Social Darwinism and University of Chicago Economics go hand in hand. Laissez Faire means leave me alone while I pick their pockets and kill their health and turn USA into brownfields.
Racism was an issue 40 years ago. Now it's mostly a form of verbal baiting. Why don't you and him fight, so I can write a story about it.
The Tea Party people are mostly upper middle class folks who are gregarious, want to have a party, missing out on the protests of the 1960's, and now finally feel that they must have been pretty square, so to get their moment of protest in they have the Tea Parties. It's like trying to find a place in history. Each one feel like their own little Martin Luther King, Jr. These people are studies in uselessness.
They are truly a waste of space. I'm not saying to bring out the Zyklon-B, but let's just say they don't add to our national discourse on matters political. They don't know anything about politics.
A few have actually voted before, but they have never protested before. They are the falsely described "silent majority", who now want to party and not be silent so they don't see themselves as the nudnicks that they have always been. The Tea Party Syndrome is all about improving one's self-image.
Re-casting oneself as a person who "cares" and is "involved". The Tea Party message is Social Darwinism, Anarchy, Wild Wild West, Laissez-Faire, and Pure Free Market Economics a la Milton Friedman. In other words it "Me, Me, Me Me, look at Me, and by the way, I would like to be more greedy, so I wish government would stand aside for more Living Room for my Greed (which is good).
They don't have any candidates because none of them know what to run for or how to run, or if they have the time to run. They don't support the GOP, because they are not sure they have time to vote, except if they could do a vote party and a protest vote -- so it could be another expression of Greedy Me-ism. Racism is the last thing anybody has to worry about from Tea Partiers.
Watch out they don't run over you on their way home -- white, black, yellow, red, it don't matter.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
