Yes. The energy density of petroleum (and coal) make them desirable sources of energy needed to fuel all aspects of our country. Unfortunately, so called "natural" alternatives all are cyclical (day-night, wind-no wind) and will never be more than a second tier source.
We will need oil, coal, or nuclear to continue advancement of society. Unless you believe the theories that the next great energy source has already been invented, and buried by the evil oil companies. :).
Revenue, Independence, and jobs. That's what it gives us.(also it de-funds those countries that hate the U.S.) The consequences are spillage(not as much as ship transport from other sources/countries) Wind, solar, have been around more than three decades, and cannot match coal or fossil fuels for cheap, efficient energy. They have to be funded by the government and need coal and oil to back them up for energy demands.
The only three alternatives to work are... nuclear, geo thermal(where it can be applied),and hydro-electric. The environmentalists only recognize the geothermal out of these three as renewable energy. It is only applicable where sources are found.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
