I like Rap/Hip-Hop because of the lyrical content. I play the drums and I'm VERY into music whether it is playing or listening to it. Rock tends to have the best instrumental performances (aside from jazz).
Led Zeppelin, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc have some of the most solid musicians I've seen in popular music. Rap is basically storytelling. It focuses (well, it's supposed to) so much on the lyricism that you could probably write a nice story or book based off of an album.
Some artists can squeeze over 500 words into 5 minutes and still make it musical. At its best, emcees show that they can be smarter than english professors with all the symbolisms, metaphors, similes, and other devices that they put into their music. In the case of the group "Cunninlyguists" they combine orchestral instrumentals with crazy lyrics.
Or with "The Roots". They are a legit hip-hop band, probably the best in the genre. You get the best of both worlds in the highest tier of rap.
I think it's so unfortunate that people only listen to the artists they hear on the radio. If they just spent a couple days looking for THE BEST of the genre, they would find a new appreciation and respect for hip hop. I'm hoping that I could do the same with rock music this summer.
I'd love to find "the hidden gems" in rock music just as I've found them in rap music. I listen to classic rock but I know there has to be unbelievable modern rock music out there.
Well actually, in a way your saying it like if you like Hip-Hop then you can't like Rap I like Rock because I appreciate the fact that the artists took the time to learn an instrument and play it in a musical way, which is why I don't like people like Artic Monkeys. I like Rap because wherever you go in the world people will get excited by it and it is a verbal skill, I mean listen to JME, WIley and Skepta (in my opinion way etter than Wiz Khalifa). Honestly you know it in Rock the most usual theme is happy Van Halen type ( maybe its just me ) But there is such a huge variety of different types Although in hip-hop specifically more and more artists are paper chasing such as Lil Wayne a genius rapper but now he seems to just be chasing money and forgetting about the music ( an example in rock is rusty Cooley, just forgetting about the musical part of the skill.
But it seems now hip-hop is becoming the new disney music of the world Sorry for the long answer Anyway I prefer rock because I apprecate it and like hiphop because can relate to it.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
