Exception thrown and not caught in the Controller process (server) are not re-thrown at the rspec side by default, usually you should check response (that is not 200 ok in that case).
I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
