Anon. Thanks for your question. I have been noticing some hostility on the Mahalo main site as well.

I'm not sure what exactly it's about, but I'll take my best stab at it. I think, first of all, people don't like change. They see sister sites and think, what happened to good old Mahalo?

What they need to realize is that Mahalo is still here and kickin'! These new teams like the Gurus and Go Team members are just part of a great effort to enhance this website to become everything it can be. I can understand why some people would be turned off by it initially, but I think, in time, the sister sites will be more accepted.

Have you noticed, every time there is a major change to Mahalo, a burst of threads will be created by members, commenting and criticizing? It's just how things go here. There will hopefully be a short time accompanied with bitterness and aversion to the idea, but soon people should get used to it.

I think sister sites are a natural way of growing the Mahalo community. I know that personally, I always thought that the topic of poker was missing from Mahalo. Not anyone's fault, there just wasn't enough interest.

Now there is a special site where I can go and get my answers while helping others out who are curious about the topic. So really, who is this harming? A part of me thinks that people don't tend to answer from sister sites as much because they have to log into a new system and that can be a pain.

Maybe after the newness of the Guru team settles down, we can somehow get a list out on Mahalo of all its sister sites. Because I think most people are confused on which topics we cover in the team. When they click on any question in Mahalo, it could very well be a sister site, and they don't like that.

What I really don't understand, though, is why some who are ON the team, are suggesting boycotting the team, the team they help to reach goals and help add some substance to these sister sites. I don't think it's right for someone to play a part of the team and then complain about it after they're through. If people don't want to participate, they don't have to.

I don't see any reason to "boycott" the Gurus. Each part of Mahalo is improving every day, and if people don't like some of the improvements, then they don't have to be a part of them. That's why Mahalo is so great!

It really accommodates everyone. If there is any inconvenience involving the sister sites, such as having to sign in, no list, etc. , please contact mahalo support! They are here for your concerns!

I really do feel in my heart that this antagonism towards the Guru team and its sister sites will die down in a few short weeks. It's a big move and it does affect everyone, but I think if people start to be POSITIVE, they will see the value in something like this.As Corey has said, these sites are specialized for people to go hang out in a room dedicated to a topic they love. If it helps you think about it as a great organizing tool!

And don't forget to lighten up, Mahalo hasn't gone anywhere. You can choose to either participate or not participate in these sister sites. Either way is completely fine.

Voice your opinions, get all that anger out, it's good for you! But at the end of the day, what we're trying to do is improve Mahalo for everyone's sake. Hope this helps!

I have not seen any bitterness towards the GuruTeam ans I hold no personal bitterness towards the GuruTeam. I wonder why this question was posted anonymously and without sources when obviously the author of this question is likely a member of the GuruTeam and would every right to face with attribution their accusers and would have knowledge enough of Mahalo to know that we need sources. I do not go to the sister sites as of right now because there are too many bugs and log-ins.

I also question the logic of Mahalo in adding them but do not question the Mahalo users logic for wanting to participate in the sister sites.. there is money to be made there.. Mahalo spent the past 16 + months growing its Mahalo community and the seamed division of the community now present is just a strange business decision but that decision is Mahalo's and not the Guru Team's. Personally I can't even see the logic of the color scheme of the sister sites..after 16+ months of the Hawaiian theme and bright, friendly, and inviting Mahalo Hawaiian colors the decision to go to a hospital sterile color scheme like blue and white is just a weird step backwards I think. So if anyone has thought that I have held bitterness towards the GuruTeam I have not and meant no implication that I have.

I do feel bitterness towards Mahalo for creating bugs exponentially faster than they fix them and this has been ramped up and accelerated by the introduction of the sister sites. I say halt all creation for the moment and fix the mess left in the wake of recent expansions. So @anonymous could we have some sources so we can properly look at these claims you have made and you have the right to face with your name attached any injustices you feel are being levied against you personally or the GuruTeam so let us know who you are.

First I'm hearing of any of this. Couple of important points: 1. The sister sites are how new people will find out about Mahalo.

Most users do NOT want a general Q&A site like MA or Yahoo Answers. However, they would visit a niche site about their car, favorite gadget or their pets. 2.

The users from these sites will wind up on Mahalo thanks to the links to topic pages and the common virtual currency. People will say "oh, I have M$50 and I can donate it to charity or gets a zappos gift card? Wow, cool!" 3.

The Guru team is focusing on seedin the communities with a couple of questions each a day. There are about 100 sister sites right now and we're trying to get 1-3 questions on each a day.4. These questions are 2-10x the default tip amount on Mahalo Answers!

This is amazing.... instead of .10 on a Mahalo Answers question you can earn .25 to M$1! :-) 5. Give it two months and let's see how it does.

Mahalo is a HUGE experiment and we are CONSTANTLY changing things. If you can't handle a LOT of changes then you should NOT be part of Mahalo. You should turn off your account and not visit the site.

We only want people in this community who are a) positive, b) open minded, c) helpful and d) willing to experiment. If you can't stand change and don't want to experiment then Mahalo IS NOT the place for you! :-) Mahalo is for adventurers!

I’m not sure whether peoples are bitter towards Guru Team. Can someone post some links to such posts? I think most are not happy with inconveniences of sister sites, rather than the Guru Team.

Sister Sites do not equate to Guru Team. Even if there is a temporary "boycott" on sister sites, it's not towards Guru Team. Sister sites are really full of teething problems and give many inconveniences.

The lack of transparency on sister sites by Mahalo management and staffs may worsen the situation. Even worse is Mahaloians are left to “discover” bugs and feedback. No announcements, no updates, nothing.

I think once teething problems are sorted out. People may go to sister sites.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
