Shopping for an active subwoofer for a home theater system. Needs to work with an Onkyo TX-DS484 receiver. I bought the receiver from an electronics equivalent of Big Lots for a great price, but the subwoofer on my old system was a passive component.
I know nothing about active subwoofers and how they connect to the receiver, so I'm paranoid about buying something that won't work. I'm looking at a Yamaha YSTSW012. I would like to know if this one will work, and also get suggestions for any other that would (1) work with my receiver, (2) cost less than $100, and (3) sound good for the price.
I do not play movies loud, so it doesn't have to handle a gazillion watts. Probably 60W to 100W would be fine. I think.
Feel free to advise me on that and any other aspect of my question. Thanks! Asked by Salty 39 months ago Similar questions: Shopping active subwoofer home theater system work Onkyo TX DS484 receiver Consumer Electronics.

Active subs are... When it comes to speakers, etc. When you say Active, its understood that the speaker in question is supplying it's own powered speaker signal; and all you need is an A/C outlet to connect to, and the line level input/output to connect the sub to on your receiver. The Onkyo receiver you have specified does have Sub woofer pre-amp outputs, that will only work with an Active Subwoofer. I will see if I can find some active subs for you to look at with my submission.

2 I have two Yamaha sub woofers. Your amp must have a sub woofer output to a sub woofer with a built in amp. I would take the specifications of your amp to a dealer and see what they suggest and what will work with your amp.
I have a Yamaha amp. Do not guess as you may do damage or have to return it. Ask for advise.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
