Should California pass the marijuana legalization initiative on their November ballot?

Given that prohibition of marijuana has been a worldwide failure (if you have the money and contacts it is available pretty much anywhere) it would seem reasonable to think that trying something else is worthwhile. I have always thought that it is not a case of legal marijuana or no marijuana; rather it is the difference between the controlled and uncontrolled sale of it. If criminals are the only people who sell marijuana don't be surprised that they don't care about selling it to children.

If it is legal, controlled and taxed it will be harder for children to access it. The situation in New Zealand schools is that it is rare for students to come to school affected by alcohol (controlled and taxed) but sadly not nearly so rare for them to come to school under the influence of cannabis. I think that the proposed California law will not address the problem of youth access to marijuana.

Most of the suppliers we see in schools are the parents of one of the kids. They do not always realise that they are supplying their kids but they have it around the house and their teen just helps themselves. If, however, growers and sellers were strictly licensed and faced severe penalties for allowing minors to access the drug we may actually get some form of controlled use.To me, if an adult wants to use a drug that's fine as long as they don't endanger anyone else (e.

G by driving a car). Young people need to wait a while before experimenting with getting even more strange chemicals flowing through their bodies. The worst thing that could happen is more young people using marijuana because they just have to pick some from the back yard.

The best would be a reduction in prison inmates and, dare I hope it, a society more tolerant of difference?

I live in Alaska, and here personal use and growth is legal within ones home. The only impact I saw when this change was made was less petty marijuana possession charges clogging up the court system and wasting time and money. I am no longer a smoker, however I support legalization world wide.

The illegalization of Marijuana was done so for greed, not a legitimate reason. I do not see it a good thing to allow any right of the people to be taken away for a fat cats pocket book. America in particular could benefit from it's legalization. It would boost the economy, offer the re-introductory of an entirely renewable resource, and could be taxed the same way alcohol and tobacco are.

Most people that oppose the legalization of marijuana are ill informed, don't know the history of the plant, and have fed into scare tactic propaganda. All of what I said I didn't use a source for as I read it in books.. however... norml.org/ Should source it all somewhere.

Legalization with out a doubt will increase the use of marijuana at least for a while. But the real concern seems not to be the actual effects of the drug but the environment that is created to supply and distribute the drug which could be significantly damaged if legalized. I am for the legalization of Marijuana because it is already so easy to get, its effects are no worse than smoking, the tax revenue would be nice, and the potential breaking down of a sector of the drug trade in America. How could smoking a joint going to increase social problems?

Shouldn't we be talking about alcohol if we want to abolish social problems. Arguably, alcohol is the most abused substance in history and its legal as it should be. If its not a joint it's another way to enjoy or cope with life.

There will always be social problems and there are things we can do to prevent them but at some people its human choice. Marijuana's effect on human choice ranges from laughing to eating a lot. Alright, I am being facetious but how can you compare the effects of heroin or cocaine to marijuana.

Check out my sources they are pretty cool. A lot of information on marijuana.

It will have no effect. California's criminalization of Marijuana is laughable as it is. "I have glaucoma!" "I have lower back pain!

" "I have a stuffy head! " "I have asthma!" These are the cries of people who are already indulging in legal Marijuana.

California, as far as I'm concerned, is the easiest place to get and use the drug legally. Adjusting their laws to make it easier doesn't matter because there will still be issues with leaving the state, quantity allowed on person, etc.People will still be getting their fake 'scripts.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
